Lagos Introduces ‘Ounje Eko’ Discounted Food Markets [Price Lists and Locations]

The Lagos State Government has introduced discounted food markets, termed “Ounje Eko,” across the state to alleviate economic challenges faced by residents.

This initiative, spearheaded by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, aims to provide essential food items at discounted rates to mitigate the impact of rising living costs.

Here are details of this initiative and highlight the locations where residents can access these discounted markets.

Lagos Discounted Food Markets Overview:

• Initiative Name: Ounje Eko (Discounted Food Markets)
• Objective: Alleviate economic hardship by providing essential food items at discounted rates.
• Effective Date: Commencing from Sunday, 17th March, 2024
• Discount Rate: 25 percent off on various food items

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, Governor Sanwo-Olu directed the establishment of Ounje Eko markets across the five divisions of Lagos State.

These markets will offer staple food items such as rice, beans, garri, bread, eggs, tomatoes, and pepper at a discounted rate of 25 percent to residents

To ensure transparency and prevent malpractices, the following measures have been put in place:

• Introduction of a voucher system to regulate sales and reach a larger populace.
• Engagement of independent payment solution providers and food vendors to oversee operations and provide real-time data for monitoring.
• Listing of prices for all food items to maintain transparency and accountability.

The discounted food markets will be accessible at various locations across Lagos State, categorized by divisions:

1. Lagos Island: 6 locations
2. Ikorodu: 9 locations
3. Ikeja: 27 locations
4. Epe: 5 locations
5. Badagry: 10 locations
