David Umahi, the Minister of Works, has announced that the Third Mainland Bridge, which has been partially closed to traffic, will be reopened fully on Thursday, April 4.

He made this statement during an inspection of ongoing projects in Lagos alongside members of the Senate and House Committees on Works.

Umahi emphasized that the decision to reopen the bridge aims to alleviate the inconvenience experienced by road users. “In the next seven days, the bridge will be opened to ease traffic,” he assured.

“Officially, President Bola Tinubu will be commissioning the rehabilitated road when he inaugurates the construction of the coastal road,” the minister added.

He elaborated that the 11.8-kilometre dual-lane project, undertaken by CCECCC-China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, was awarded at a cost of N21 billion, with 30 percent of the cost already paid.

However, additional expenses arose from factors such as asphalt, priced at N22,000 per square meter, solar light installation, CCTV installation, among others.

Oluwaseun Osiyemi, Commissioner for Transportation in Lagos, also confirmed the news via his X account on Saturday: “Dear Lagos residents, We’re pleased to share that the Third Mainland Bridge will resume full operations on April 4, 2024, following extensive repairs. We thank you for your cooperation and patience,” he added.
