Electricity Workers Urge Withdrawal of New Electricity Tariff

The National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) has demanded the withdrawal of the newly increased electricity tariff, citing concerns about its impact on the prices of goods and services.

The union argues that the tariff hike will burden citizens and push them towards purchasing foreign products due to the unaffordability of local goods.

In a letter to the Minister of Power, the NUEE emphasized the need for stakeholder consultation before such decisions are made and expressed concerns about the safety of its members during disconnection visits.

Additionally, the country’s electricity generation has decreased significantly, with load allocation to distribution companies declining by 32.3%.
