Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has disclosed that most of the projects commissioned by his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, were not fully funded, leaving a substantial debt burden for his administration. Governor Fubara made this revelation during the commissioning of the Aleto-Ogale-Ebubu-Eteo Road, also known as Old Bori Road, in Eleme Local Government Area.

According to Fubara, the contractors who handled the affected projects are returning for outstanding payments, but he did not provide an estimate of the debt. He stated that he was compelled to speak out after being pushed by his opponents and plans to appear at future project commissioning with a “white paper” detailing project funding.

Governor Fubara clarified that his administration has not engaged in conflicts with the federal government, but has instead received support, despite challenges from an insider. He justified the presence of Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, at the commissioning, citing a commitment to aligning with progressive figures.

Otti commended Fubara for his leadership, describing it as true service to the people, not just a few interests. He believes Fubara came prepared and cannot be distracted by political instability in Rivers State.

The reconstructed Old Bori road will provide an alternative to the dilapidated section of the Eleme axis of the East-West road.
