The police Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos has launched a 24-hour patrol of the Third Mainland Bridge to protect the vital infrastructure and ensure the safety of road users.

This initiative was announced on Monday by Olayinka Egbeyemi, commander of the RRS, who directed the squad’s bike riders to commence daily patrols aimed at preventing harassment and vandalism.

“This is in line with the directives of the commissioner of police, CP Adegoke Fayoade, to the squad for the protection of lives, property, and public infrastructure on the newly renovated bridge,” Egbeyemi stated.

Egbeyemi urged motorists and road users to cooperate with the motorcycle cops to enhance the effectiveness of their service.

The 11.8km Third Mainland Bridge, a crucial link in Lagos’ transportation network, recently underwent significant renovations.

The bridge has long been plagued by thefts of electrical installations and other fittings, an issue that has persisted for decades.
