President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a six-month extension of free train rides on the Abuja Rail Mass Transit system, also known as the Metro Rail. The announcement was made during the inauguration of the metro rail operations in Abuja on Wednesday.

Initially, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike had declared a two-month period of free rides to ease transportation burdens. However, President Tinubu, in his address, appealed for an extension until the end of the year, emphasizing the importance of providing continued relief and hope to the residents.

“Our dear landlord and his team, I heard you saying two months free ride. I appeal to you to make it till the end of the year. Since today you’re not going to charge me, that will give the people hope and reasons to celebrate,” President Tinubu stated during the inauguration.

The move is expected to significantly reduce commuting costs for thousands of Abuja residents, promoting greater connectivity within the city.
