Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has declared a state of emergency in the education sector, announcing the recruitment of over 5,000 new teachers, with plans to employ an additional 10,000. The state government also plans to construct 1,000 new classrooms across the 44 local government areas.

The declaration comes as UNICEF reports that Kano has approximately one million out-of-school children, prompting the state government to take action to deliver quality education.

The governor made the announcement while distributing educational materials to schools, awarding scholarships to students, and providing soft loans to teachers.
