Former President Muhammadu Buhari has emphasized the importance of self-reliance in food production as Nigerians celebrate Eid-el-Kabir. Speaking after attending Eid prayers with the Emir of Daura, Dr. Faruk Umar Faruk, in Katsina State, Buhari encouraged citizens to produce and consume locally grown food to achieve national food security.

According to a statement by his media aide, Garba Shehu, Buhari praised Nigerians who have taken to farming to mitigate rising food prices. He urged citizens to support each other and strive for self-reliance, emphasizing the need for greater discussion and awareness about population growth and its challenges.

Buhari also commended the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as a unifying force in Nigeria, praising the scheme as one of General Yakubu Gowon’s greatest achievements. He gifted a cow, rice, and cash to NYSC members who visited him, encouraging them to be their brother’s keepers.
