Following intense rainfall that has lasted over nine hours, the Lagos State Government has called for calm and urged residents in low-lying areas to relocate to higher grounds to ensure their safety and protect their properties.

According to Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the state has experienced heavy rainfall since last week, causing the Lagos lagoon to rise and resulting in flash floods in areas like Iyana Oworo and Third Mainland Bridge.

The government has deployed emergency teams to clear blockages and is working to maintain and clean drainage systems. Residents are advised to stay informed through daily weather reports, avoid driving through floods, and maintain tertiary drains in front of their homes.

The government’s efforts aim to mitigate the impact of the flooding and ensure the safety of all residents in the coastal city.
