Former President Barack Obama has endorsed Kamala Harris’ bid for the White House, giving her campaign a boost ahead of the November presidential election.

Obama announced his support for Harris on social media, stating that he and his wife Michelle believe she would make a “fantastic President of the United States.”

Harris, who announced her candidacy after President Joe Biden bowed out of the race, has been gaining momentum in recent weeks. She has already received the backing of President Biden and now adds Obama’s influential endorsement to her campaign.

The endorsement comes as Harris faces increasing attacks from her opponent, Donald Trump, who has refused to schedule a debate with her. Harris has criticized Trump’s “extremist” Republicans, saying they are launching a “full-on attack” on American freedoms.

Obama’s support is expected to add to Harris’ growing momentum, which has been building since she launched her campaign. The American Federation of Teachers has also endorsed Harris, applauding her speech at their convention in Houston where she warned of the dangers of extremist rhetoric.

The presidential election is set to take place in November, with Harris and Trump expected to be the main contender.
