The Federal Government has announced initiatives to alleviate economic hardship, including the sale of 50kg bags of rice for ₦40,000 at designated centers nationwide. This move comes as the planned nationwide protests, scheduled for August 1, draw closer.

According to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the government has created centers across the country where citizens can purchase rice at a subsidized price. Idris stated that this initiative is part of the government’s efforts to address the demands of the protest organizers and ease the living conditions of citizens.

The minister also highlighted other measures taken by the government, including the distribution of 740 trucks of grains to states and the implementation of a student loan scheme. Additionally, the government plans to roll out CNG buses and conversion kits to reduce transportation costs.

Idris emphasized that the government is listening to the concerns of citizens and is taking steps to address them. He urged protesters to reconsider their plans, stating that the government is already working to address their demands.
