The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has strongly condemned the recent destruction and looting of the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) Industrial Park in Kano.

Okay.ng reports that the facility was attacked and set ablaze by hoodlums on Thursday during nationwide protests against economic hardship.

Addressing journalists on Friday, the Emir expressed deep concern over the incident, describing it as a significant setback for Kano State, the northern region, and the country at large. He emphasized the need for the people of Kano to prevent such actions from recurring.

“Today is a sad day for the people of Kano due to what happened in the state. We sympathize with the entire indigenes of Kano,” Sanusi stated. “What happened is unacceptable and the people of Kano should ensure that it does not happen again.”

The Emir warned that peaceful demonstrations could be hijacked by agents of destruction, leading to loss of lives and destruction of properties. He lamented the looting and vandalism of both public and private properties, highlighting that the protests were initially intended to be peaceful demonstrations against hunger and hardship.

“The young people that died are our children. The properties that were burnt and stolen belong to the people of Kano,” he added. “These are funds that are meant to be used for poverty alleviation, education, and nutrition. The digital centre of excellence built by the NCC was intended to educate our youths, provide them with digital training, and prepare them for examination. The minister was due to commission the centre next week, but we have now wasted millions of naira.”

The Emir called on the people of Kano to resist being deceived into continuing such mayhem and to ensure that such incidents do not repeat themselves in the future.
