Anambra State Commissioner for Youth Development, Patrick Mba, and his wife have been freed by their abductors after a day in captivity. The couple was kidnapped on Friday while traveling to Abuja for a wedding, but they regained their freedom on Saturday, according to a government source who requested anonymity.

The commissioner and his wife were en route to attend the wedding of Adaora, the daughter of Anambra Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, when they were seized by gunmen along the Edo-Kogi Expressway.

Their release was confirmed late Saturday, with a state government statement expected soon. Tragically, one of the commissioner’s aides was killed during the incident.

The state government has yet to issue an official statement regarding the matter.
