Resident Doctors Start Strike Monday

A seven day warning strike has been declared by the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors as a result of the abduction of their colleague, Dr Ganiyat Popoola.

Dr Ganiyat Popoola was abducted close to eight months ago at the National Eye Centre in Kaduna State.

Dr Dele Abdullahi NARD President hinted newsmen on Sunday, he stated that the strike will start on Monday, August 26, 2024, by 12MidNight.

He stated that the decision was established at the Emergency National Executive Council meeting.

“The strike is commencing by midnight today. It’s for seven days, it’s a warning strike, and it’s total.” Dr Abdullahi said

Dr. Ganiyat Popoola is a registrar in the Department of Ophthalmology at the National Eye Centre, Kaduna, she was kidnapped on December 27, 2023 in company of her husband and nephew.

Popoola and her nephew remain in captivity while her husband regain freedom in March.

There has been protest in all tertiary hospitals nationwide demanding Dr Popoola’s freedom by members of Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors.
