The second scheduled interrogation of the president of the Nigeria Labor Congress, Joe Ajaero, by the police did not take place on Thursday after Ajaero and NLC secretary Emmanuel Ugboaja, who was also invited, failed to appear at the NLC police headquarters in Abuja.

However, a source close to the situation said that the leaders of the NLC have written to the investigators that they will not be available for Thursday.

“They didn’t show up. I know they wrote to those handling their case that they won’t come today. They asked them to wait for them on September 25,” said the source.

The lawyer of the NLC President, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), who accompanied Ajaero to the police headquarters for his first appearance on August 29, had said on Wednesday that the leaders of The union may seek updates.

Speaking further on the matter on Thursday, Falana said: “We have written for another date because Comrade Joe Ajaero has a commitment outside Abuja today.”

Police are questioning Ajaero on charges of financing terrorism, cybercrime, subversion, criminal conspiracy and treason.

His invitation was in subsequent of a night police raid on the NLC national secretariat in Abuja.

The police claim a link between the union leader and a British man, Andrew Wynne, who has been accused of financing the recent #EndBadGovernance or #Hunger protests in the country to oust the government of President Bola Tinubu.

After Ajaero’s first appearance on August 29, the police, in another letter signed by the Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Ibitoye Alajide, on behalf of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, the Department of Intelligence Force, Abuja, asked him to appear again on Thursday. , September 5, together with the Secretary General of the NLC “to answer questions about accusations of criminal intimidation, behavior that may disturb public peace and malicious damage to property.”
