Lagos Announces 8-Week Closure of Eko Bridge for Urgent Repairs

The Lagos State government has declared plans to close and reroute traffic on Eko Bridge to facilitate urgent repairs by the Federal Ministry of Works, Okay.ng reports.

The operation is scheduled to commence on Monday, September 16, and is expected to last for eight weeks, aiming for full reopening in the second week of November.

The announcement was made by the State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, on Friday, September 13. He explained that the repair work will be conducted in four phases, during which the bridge will be either fully or partially closed, depending on the progress of the project.

Motorists are advised to use the following alternative routes during the repair period:

  • From Funsho Williams Avenue to the Island: Motorists can utilize the service lane at Alaka to connect to Costain and access Eko Bridge to continue their journey.
  • Heading to the Island via Costain: Drivers can access Costain to connect to Eko Bridge and link Apongbon to reach their destinations.
  • From Apongbon towards Eko Bridge: Motorists can link Costain to access Funsho Williams Avenue.
  • Alternative Route via Oyingbo: Drivers can use Costain inwards Alaka/Funsho Williams Avenue or proceed through Apapa Road from Costain to link Oyingbo, then access Adekunle to connect to the Third Mainland Bridge.
  • Heading to Surulere: Motorists are advised to use Costain to link Breweries towards Abebe Village, then connect Eric Moore/Bode Thomas to reach their destinations.

Commissioner Osiyemi assured the public that officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be deployed to the affected areas and alternative routes to minimize travel disruptions and inconvenience.
