Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun has made history by becoming the 23rd substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria, marking a significant milestone in the country’s judicial system.

President Bola Tinubu swore her in on Monday at the Council Chamber of the State House in Abuja, following her confirmation by the Senate on September 25, 2024.

This is not Kekere-Ekun’s first oath-taking ceremony, She was previously sworn in as acting CJN by President Tinubu on August 23, before her Senate confirmation.

The ceremony was attended by three of Kekere-Ekun’s predecessors, including Justice Aloma Mukhtar, the first female CJN, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, and Justice Walter Onnoghen.

Members of Kekere-Ekun’s family were present, along with other justices of the Supreme Court.

Kekere-Ekun succeeds Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, who retired on August 22, 2024, after reaching the age of 70.

This swearing-in ceremony marks a new chapter in Nigeria’s judicial history, and Kekere-Ekun’s leadership is eagerly anticipated.
