This censored image shows a baby girl who was born with her heart outside her body.
According Metro.co.uk, The child, whose insides appear to be spilling out of her chest, was born in Madhya Pradesh, India, on Wednesday.
She has an incredibly rare condition, known as ectopia cordis, which affects only eight in every one million births and 90 per cent of those are stillborn or sadly die within three days.
Mum, Sushma Padmakar, 22, and her electrician husband, Basant Padmakar, said they were confused by the condition at first.
‘The God has blessed us with a baby but I don’t know whether to call it a blessing or a curse that has fallen upon us,’ Basant said.
‘I am a poor man. We can barely afford two square meals a day. But I will do everything to save my child. We are feeling so helpless.’
As the district hospital was not equipped to handle such a serious case, the baby was referred to the Government medical college and hospital in Jabalpur.
A medical team has now been set-up, under the supervision of pediatric urologist Dr Vikesh Agarwal.
Surgeons operated on the baby yesterday and doctors are optimistic about her chances.
