The Super Eagles of Nigeria concluded their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying series with a stunning 2-1 defeat to Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

Despite having already secured their spot as Group D winners, the three-time African champions were outplayed by the underdogs in an unexpected turn of events.

Nigeria took the lead in the 59th minute, thanks to a brilliant solo effort from Samuel Chukwueze.

However, the Rwandans responded swiftly with two quick goals from Ange Mutsinzi and Innocent Nshuti, securing their historic first-ever victory over the Super Eagles.

The loss marks the first defeat under interim manager Augustine Eguavoen, whose future in the role is now uncertain.
