The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has issued a strong warning to the public about fraudsters falsely claiming to have received contract awards from the bank.

The apex bank described these activities as deliberate attempts to defraud unsuspecting individuals.

In a statement released on Monday by its Acting Director of Corporate Communications, Mrs. Hakama Sidi Ali, the CBN clarified that it has not issued any contract award letters for construction works or special financial interventions.

“The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) wishes to alert members of the public to the activities of fraudsters purporting to be in receipt of award letters of contracts related to construction works and special financial interventions on behalf of the Bank,” the statement read.

“We wish to clarify that this is false. These individuals are solely motivated by the desire to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians. Any such assertions are fraudulent and should be disregarded.”

The CBN emphasized that under its current management, the bank has discontinued direct development interventions and special project funding.

It also stated that no public notices regarding such interventions have been authorized for release on social media platforms or any other outlets.

The apex bank reaffirmed its commitment to its primary responsibilities, including maintaining monetary and price stability and ensuring a sound financial system in Nigeria.

The bank urged the public to exercise vigilance and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.

“We encourage the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities or publications to the relevant law enforcement agencies,” the statement concluded.
