The Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos has overturned the rape conviction of Femi Olaleye, Managing Director of the Optimal Cancer Care Foundation.

In a ruling delivered on Friday, the appellate court stated that the lower court had erred in its judgment, leading to Olaleye’s acquittal.

In October 2023, Olaleye had been convicted by the Special Offences and Domestic Violence Court in Lagos on a two-count charge of defilement of a child and sexual assault by penetration.

Justice Rahman Oshodi sentenced him to life imprisonment at the time.

The Court of Appeal’s decision has now nullified the conviction, discharging and acquitting Olaleye.
