President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Nigerians of his administration’s commitment to completing the Eastern Rail Line, which will connect Port Harcourt to Maiduguri in Borno State.

The president made this pledge during an interactive session with South-East leaders in Enugu State on Saturday, as part of his one-day working visit to the state. Tinubu also commissioned several landmark projects executed by Governor Peter Mbah’s administration.

According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu reiterated his government’s dedication to advancing critical infrastructure and fostering economic development across the country.

Tinubu also promised federal support for the development of the Anambra Basin, a significant energy reserve estimated to hold up to 1 billion barrels of oil and 30 billion cubic feet of gas.

“On the support of the gas infrastructure. Sure, gas is an alternative to petrol. There is no wasting of time than to invest more in it. We will do it together, and I am lucky I have good governors,” Tinubu said.

Projects Commissioned in Enugu

During his visit, Tinubu inaugurated key projects, including:

  • GTC Smart Green School
  • New Haven/Bisalla Road
  • International Conference Center
  • Command-and-Control Center
  • 150 patrol vehicles equipped with surveillance cameras

The president also performed the virtual commissioning of other notable projects from the Enugu State Government House.

At the inauguration of the Command-and-Control Center, Tinubu emphasized the importance of investing in security infrastructure to drive development.

“This is a profound demonstration of what we can do together. It reassures me that more revenue going to the sub-nationals and local government is not a waste. It is for development,” he said.

Tinubu praised Governor Peter Mbah for his innovative development model and philosophy, which he said align with his vision for Nigeria. He also commended Governor Alex Otti of Abia State for his strides in governance, emphasizing that national progress transcends political affiliations and ethnic divisions.

“I don’t care which party you come from; you are my friend. Alex Otti of Abia State is also doing very well. It is not about the differences in languages and place of birth,” Tinubu stated.

“We are all members of one huge family called Nigeria. But we live in different rooms in the same house. We must build this house to satisfy our immediate and future needs,” he added.
