The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the rationing of power supply to customers of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) in parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) due to a road dualisation project by the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA).
In a statement issued on Saturday, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, disclosed that the power rationing would take place between January 6 and January 20, 2025, to facilitate the relocation of transmission towers along the Kukwaba/Apo 132 kV line on the Outer Southern Expressway route.
The relocation work will involve dismantling and reconstructing eight 132 kV and 33 kV towers affected by the road construction project.
Mbah highlighted the areas to be affected by the power rationing, including:
- Kubwa
- Karu
- Maraba
- Nyanya
- Masaka
- Keffi
- Kukwaba
- Apo Mechanic Village
Additionally, parts of Lugbe, Trademore Estate, Pyakasa, Sabon Lugbe Chika, and the Alaita axis will also experience disruptions during the period.
The statement reads: “This relocation work will necessitate a planned power outage from 6th to 20th January, between 9 am and 4 pm daily, which is the estimated duration for the dismantling and construction of the towers.
“It will also allow for the restringing of the power cables that will enable the resumption of bulk power supply to the Apo Transmission Substation from the Gwagwalada Substation.”
While emphasizing the importance of the project for the completion of the road dualisation, TCN apologized for the inconvenience the planned power outages would cause to residents and businesses in the affected areas.
“While the relocation of the transmission towers is a necessity for the road completion project, TCN apologises for the inconvenience this planned power outage will cause,” the statement added.
