Senate President Godswill Akpabio has denied allegations of sexual harassment, stating that he has never harassed Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan or any other woman.

Speaking during plenary on Wednesday, Akpabio addressed the Senate after Akpoti-Uduaghan formally submitted a sexual harassment petition against him on the floor of the chamber.

The former Akwa Ibom governor said he had received numerous calls regarding the allegation but dismissed it as entirely false.

“At no time did I ever attempt any sexual harassment on the said distinguished senator Akpoti-Uduaghan or any other woman for that matter,” Akpabio stated.

He emphasized his deep respect for women, crediting his upbringing by a single mother who raised him and his siblings under challenging circumstances.

“I and my siblings were raised very well by my late single mother, who died in 2000, through very difficult times. And I therefore have the highest regard for women.

“I also have four beautiful daughters. At no time would I ever harass any woman, and I have never done so.”

Akpabio also pointed to his record as a former governor, stating that he won multiple awards, including recognition as “the most gender-friendly governor in Nigeria.”

He thanked his colleagues and Nigerians for their support, assuring them that he would be vindicated.

“I urge all Nigerians, particularly the media and members of social media, to await the court’s decision. And please, do not jump to conclusions on matters of mere allegation.

“The Almighty God will step in to vindicate the just.”
