Russia Resumes Strikes on Ukraine After Easter Ceasefire Ends

Russia has resumed military operations against Ukraine following the expiration of a 30-hour Easter truce declared by President Vladimir Putin. The ceasefire, which ended at midnight on April 21, was intended as a humanitarian gesture, but both Moscow and Kyiv accused each other of violating its terms.

Within hours of the truce ending, Ukrainian officials reported renewed air and drone attacks across several regions, including Sumy, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Cherkasy. According to Ukraine’s air force, Russia launched 96 drones and three missiles, with air defenses intercepting dozens of them. Despite these efforts, some areas suffered damage, though no casualties were reported in the initial strikes.

President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of violating the ceasefire over 2,000 times, while Russia’s Defense Ministry insisted its forces adhered to the agreement and blamed Ukraine for provocations. Diplomatic efforts for an extended ceasefire or peace talks remain at a standstill, despite US President Donald Trump expressing hope for a resolution.
