Senator Neda Imasuen, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, has urged the Federal Government to strengthen security measures in troubled Edo communities.

Representing Edo South Senatorial District, Imasuen emphasized that only a reinforced security presence can restore lasting peace to areas recently plagued by violence.

Communities such as Columbo Camp and Maridoti Gbelamoten in Ovia South-West, as well as Siluko Ward in Ovia North-East, have been targeted by gunmen, resulting in fatalities, displacement of residents, and disruption of agricultural activities. Imasuen stressed the importance of prioritizing the public’s interest in his legislative agenda, ensuring that his sponsored bills and projects address the needs of the people.

He stated, “The renewed assaults on Columbo Camp and Maridoti Gbelamoten in Ovia South-West, and Siluko Ward in Ovia North-East, have resulted in deaths, displacement of residents, and disruption of farming activities. I urge the Federal Government to reinforce security in the affected areas, investigate the causes of the violence, and implement long-term safety measures to restore confidence in the area.”

Imasuen has introduced several motions and bills in the Senate, focusing on insecurity, education, and healthcare. Notably, he sponsored the Federal College of Education, Abudu (Establishment) Bill, 2024, aiming to train qualified teachers in Edo State. He is also advocating for amendments to the Federal Medical Centres Act to enhance healthcare access in rural and underfunded communities.
