Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has issued a strong appeal to children to reject bullying and report any such incidents to responsible adults, during the 2025 Children’s Day celebration held on Tuesday at the Oba’s Complex, Abeokuta.

The event, themed “Stand Up, Speak Up, Building a Bully-Free Generation,” was organized by the Office of the First Lady in partnership with the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development. The governor’s message was delivered by Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele.

Governor Abiodun explained that bullying involves “using vulgar words and actions that could damage emotions, cause pain, fear, and humiliation to another person.” He condemned bullying in schools and communities, emphasizing that it is unacceptable at any age or level.

He clarified, “Bullying can be physical, verbal or texts on social media, name-calling among other forms must be strictly avoided by all.” He encouraged students to be proactive in promoting anti-bullying values and to safeguard their mental health.

Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Adijat Adeleye, spoke on the importance of fostering an environment where children can grow without fear. She urged collective action from parents, educators, policymakers, and peers to combat bullying in all its manifestations—physical, emotional, psychological, or digital.

“We want you all to join forces with Ogun State’s efforts to combat bullying. Ogun State is waging a multi-sectoral war against bullying,” Adeleye said, underscoring the ministry’s dedication to protecting children’s rights.

The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Abayomi Arigbabu, urged children to internalize the day’s theme and to serve as role models in their families and communities.

The celebration thus highlighted the critical need for awareness and action to eliminate bullying and promote the well-being of children in Ogun State.
