Qatar Airways has announced the temporary suspension of all flight operations, following the closure of air traffic movement across the State of Qatar amid escalating regional tensions.

In a statement issued on Monday, the national carrier confirmed that the suspension is a direct result of Qatar’s decision to shut its airspace as a precautionary measure.

“As a result of the closure of air traffic movement in the State of Qatar, we can confirm the temporary suspension of Qatar Airways flights,” the airline stated.

Okay.ng reports that explosions were heard across Doha earlier in the day, and interceptors were observed lighting up the night sky amid fears of retaliatory strikes from Iran following U.S. attacks on Iranian nuclear sites.

Qatar Airways said it is currently coordinating with government stakeholders and relevant authorities to support passengers affected by the disruption.

“We are working closely with government stakeholders and the relevant authorities to support any passengers that have been impacted, and will resume operations when the airspace re-opens,” the airline added.

The airline assured travelers that safety remains its top priority, emphasizing its commitment to protecting both passengers and crew during this period of uncertainty.

“The safety of our passengers and crew remains our highest priority,” the statement concluded.

Qatar’s foreign ministry had earlier confirmed the airspace closure, citing regional developments. No timeline has been given yet for when the airspace will reopen.
