Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Thursday officially announced the renaming of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, in memory of the late Dr. Omololu Olunloyo, a distinguished elder statesman and former governor of the old Oyo State. The announcement was made during the interdenominational commendation service held in honour of the late former governor at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, located in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

Governor Makinde declared, “The institution will now be known as Omololu Olunloyo Polytechnic, Ibadan.” This declaration signifies a tribute to Dr. Olunloyo’s immense contributions to education and governance in the region.

Okay.ng reports that Dr. Omololu Olunloyo was not only a former governor but also the pioneer Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, making this renaming a fitting homage to his legacy. The late statesman passed away just weeks before his 90th birthday, leaving behind a rich legacy of public service and educational development.

The renaming underscores the governor’s commitment to preserving the memory of notable leaders who have shaped the state’s history. Further details about the ceremony and future plans for the institution are expected to be released soon.
