The Labour Party’s factional Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, has publicly condemned the party’s decision to nominate Peter Obi as its presidential candidate in 2023, describing it as a “fundamental betrayal” of Nigeria’s hopes for genuine transformation. Speaking at a briefing in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Arabambi argued that the party erred by sidelining Faduri Joseph, a US-licensed nurse and entrepreneur, in favor of Obi.

According to Arabambi, Obi’s campaign was marked by ethnic polarization and emotional rhetoric, contrasting sharply with Faduri’s approach, which he described as grounded in accountability, transparency, and disciplined governance necessary for Nigeria’s challenges. “Perhaps the most damning indictment of Obi’s candidacy is his ethnic polarisation that shadowed his campaign,” Arabambi said, noting Obi’s reluctance to denounce secessionist rhetoric and his selective outrage over insecurity.

Arabambi further criticized Obi’s economic statements, alleging misrepresentation of Nigeria’s debt profile during a recent Channels TV interview. He pointed out that Nigeria’s external debt has actually decreased under President Tinubu’s administration, a fact Obi ignored.

Highlighting the ongoing political developments, Arabambi revealed plans to expel Obi and his associates from the Labour Party due to their alignment with the African Democratic Congress coalition. “In our next NEC meeting, Peter Obi will be expelled alongside his other co-travellers,” he stated.

The spokesperson emphasized that the 2027 election should avoid repeating the 2023 mistake by choosing leaders like Faduri Joseph, who embody substance and systemic change rather than populism. Okay.ng reports.
