Senator Aminu Tambuwal, a key figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, has accused the administration of President Bola Tinubu of actively undermining Nigeria’s opposition parties.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, the former Sokoto State governor said current political developments suggest deliberate efforts to weaken opposition groups across the country.

“If I’m invited by the police I will appear; the interpretation and reading of meaning into the invitation is totally a different ball game altogether.

Police need to be very circumspect going forward and I can’t say that they are wrong in the invitation,” Tambuwal said.

He alleged that the ruling government is complicit in actions targeted at destabilising opposition parties.

“We are all sensible and when you look at what is happening in various political parties in Nigeria today, you don’t need to be told the amount of denial that they, including Tinubu, are involved in destabilising efforts of opposition parties.

I’m saying that they are involved in efforts aimed at destabilising the opposition. I’m saying they are involved in the destabilisation efforts,” he insisted.

Tambuwal expressed dismay over the state of governance under Tinubu, stating that the current situation aligns with what he had warned against during the 2023 campaign season.

“I’m shocked that under Tinubu’s watch, Nigeria is being run the way it’s run today and I can’t say that I’m disappointed because I campaigned against him,” he added.
