The Department of State Services (DSS) has warned Nigerians against dealing with a dismissed officer identified as Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, accused of impersonating the agency and defrauding unsuspecting citizens.
In a statement posted on its official X handle on Sunday, the DSS said Godwin, a former staff member, had been engaging in “unscrupulous activities” under the guise of representing the Service.
“The Department of State Services (DSS) hereby alerts members of the public of the activities of one Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, a dismissed staff. He is reportedly using the name of the Service to defraud unsuspecting members of the public,” the agency stated.
The DSS cautioned Nigerians to avoid any dealings with him, noting that all official enquiries and complaints should be directed only to the Service’s verified communication channels.
This warning comes barely four days after the DSS issued a similar notice concerning another dismissed officer, Barry Donald, who was also accused of impersonating the agency for fraudulent purposes.
The DSS emphasized that it would continue to identify and expose individuals attempting to exploit its name or operations for criminal gain.
Founded in 1986, the DSS serves as Nigeria’s domestic intelligence and counterintelligence agency, responsible for safeguarding internal security and preventing threats against the nation.
