The Federal Government has released N32.9 billion through the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) to strengthen primary healthcare facilities across the country, marking the third disbursement in 2025.
The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Pate, announced the release on Wednesday in a statement titled “The Red Letter.” He said the funds had already begun moving into the bank accounts of primary healthcare centres nationwide.
Pate explained that the disbursement aims to improve access to essential health services, enhance infrastructure, and ensure better preparedness at the grassroots level.
“This money is not sitting in Abuja. It has already begun its journey into the commercial bank accounts of primary health care facilities in every ward across Nigeria,” the minister said. “It is your clinic’s money. It is your community’s chance. It is your country’s promise.”
He urged citizens, community leaders, and local institutions to take ownership of the process by monitoring how the funds are used to improve healthcare delivery.
“The health committee in your ward, traditional leaders, women and youth groups, and faith-based organisations must sit together, decide together, and spend together to make facilities stronger and safer,” he stated.
Pate warned that lack of community involvement often leads to mismanagement, stressing that transparency and vigilance are key to ensuring the funds achieve their intended impact.
“Each Naira in this N32.9bn is a seed. When you nurture it with vigilance and pride, it grows into medicine, safe births, better infrastructure, and lives saved. When you neglect it, it withers into waste,” he said.
He described the release as part of the government’s commitment to renewing public trust in the health sector and ensuring that citizens benefit directly from federal investments in primary care.
Pate concluded by calling on communities to embrace joint planning and accountability, emphasizing that “the health of Nigeria lies in the hands of Nigerians.”
