The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Imo State has deployed over 650 personnel for its 2025 Ember Months campaign, aimed at improving road safety during the year-end travel surge.

Sector Commander Udensi Oji announced the deployment during the campaign’s flag-off in Owerri. The team includes 350 officers and over 300 Special Marshals.

The campaign theme, “Take Responsibility for Your Safety, Stop Distracted Driving,” emphasises the dangers of inattentive driving and the broader impact of road crashes.

Oji stated that the initiative will educate the public on the legal and ethical consequences of traffic violations and promote responsible vehicle loading and compliance with weight limits.

He added that the campaign will also address speeding, encourage inter-agency collaboration, and promote the use of the FRSC mobile app to monitor driver behavior.

Target audiences include commuters, roadside traders, motorcyclists, tricyclists, local leaders, and transport operators. Public sensitisation efforts will span urban and rural communities.

The command has developed an action plan to ensure smooth traffic flow from December 15, 2025, to January 15, 2026. Details of the plan will be released in the coming weeks.

Oji urged drivers to avoid distractions such as mobile phone use and prolonged conversations while driving, stressing the importance of full concentration behind the wheel.

Imo State’s strategic location as a gateway to Abia, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, and Cross River makes Owerri a critical traffic hub during festive periods.

The FRSC will provide toll-free emergency services, ambulances, and tow trucks throughout the campaign period to support safe travel across the state.
