Award-winning Nigerian singer and record producer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that he chose Akwa Ibom State as the first location for his much-anticipated music concert in Nigeria because of the world-class facilities available in the state.
Speaking at a pre-concert reception hosted in Uyo on Sunday by Governor Umo Eno and the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, Davido said Akwa Ibom stood out as the best venue to begin his nationwide concert series after 14 years of performing on global stages.
“When we were looking around Africa, five places came up, and Akwa Ibom was at the top of the list,” Davido said. “A lot of people are flying in from other states that don’t have this type of facility. Everything about Akwa Ibom is beautiful. If all states were like this, I’d be glad to tour all over Nigeria.”
Okay News reports that the artist also praised Governor Eno for maintaining peace and stability in the state while creating opportunities for young people to thrive through entertainment and innovation.
“I’m excited. This Akwa Ibom tour is one of a kind. After our successful shows in America, we wanted a good venue in Africa — and this state stood out. You have a standard facility here, and that’s why we’re starting from here,” Davido said with excitement.
In his remarks, Senate President Akpabio commended the governor for his leadership and youth-friendly policies, adding that Davido’s influence on young people across Nigeria has been remarkable.
He said, “Davido has mentored a good number of our youths through his platform. I urge him to take some Akwa Ibom stars along as he continues his tour across the continent.”
Governor Eno also thanked Davido for inspiring the younger generation through his music and work ethic.
He said, “You have taken your career to great heights and inspired millions of young Nigerians to believe in their dreams. We appreciate you for sharing the stage with our local entertainers — it gives them hope that they too can succeed.”
