The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced significant strides in Nigeria’s fight against drug trafficking and abuse, revealing that it recorded 45,853 arrests and secured 9,263 convictions over the past 30 months.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the agency, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), disclosed the figures during the combined 9th and 10th Commendation/Awards ceremony held at the NDLEA National Headquarters in Abuja on October 29, 2025.
Marwa stated that the agency seized over 8.5 million kilograms of assorted illicit drugs during the period, reflecting the impact of its intelligence-driven operations. He also noted that 26,613 drug users were counselled and rehabilitated at NDLEA treatment facilities nationwide.
The agency’s flagship War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign has also gained momentum, with 9,848 sensitisation activities conducted across schools, workplaces, markets, motor parks, worship centres, and communities.
“These figures are not just numbers; they reflect the growing impact of our renewed intelligence-driven operations and the collective national resolve to make Nigeria a drug-free nation,” Marwa said.
He emphasized that the NDLEA’s efforts align with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, which prioritizes a secure, healthy, and productive society. Marwa reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to sustaining the momentum in the fight against drugs, describing it as “a fight for the soul of our nation.”
During the ceremony, 220 personnel received commendation letters and awards for outstanding performance, while 15 senior officers were decorated with new ranks.
Marwa commended the operatives for their dedication and resilience, noting that their efforts have significantly raised the tempo of the anti-drug campaign across Nigeria.
The NDLEA’s achievements underscore the importance of sustained enforcement, rehabilitation, and public education in tackling drug-related challenges nationwide.
