Wema Bank has honoured three exceptional educators with a total of ₦4.5 million in prizes as part of its 2025 “Wema At 80 Teachers Day Campaign,” held at its Marina headquarters in Lagos. The initiative, themed “Celebrating Teachers with a Legacy of Impact,” recognised teachers whose work has shaped generations of students across Nigeria.

Managing Director/CEO Moruf Oseni praised teachers as “unsung heroes” whose dedication builds strong nations. “We celebrate their resilience and dedication, especially as we mark 80 years of empowering communities and driving positive impact,” he said.

The winners included:

  • Abraham Ngobiri, founder of Teens-Train, was awarded ₦2 million for his work mentoring and counselling teens.
  • Mrs Esther Adesada, founder of Heritage X Foundation, received ₦1.5 million.
  • Ms Taiwo Alabi, founder of Educycle, was awarded ₦1 million.

Ngobiri described the recognition as validation for years of quiet service. Adesada called it a “huge motivation” during a challenging year, while Alabi said the award was meaningful for all teachers who inspire the next generation.

Launched in September 2025, the campaign invited students and alumni to submit 80-second videos celebrating impactful teachers. Ten finalists were shortlisted, with three emerging as winners after a rigorous judging process.

Since its inception, the Teachers Day Campaign has grown into a nationwide movement, investing over ₦20 million in prizes and mentorship programmes, reaching more than 3,000 students and 10 schools.
