The government of Lagos State, Nigeria’s commercial capital, has announced a series of traffic diversions across major routes on the city’s Island district ahead of the 10th Lagos Women Run, scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025.

In a statement released on Thursday, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the state’s Commissioner for Transportation, said the 10-kilometre race — organised by the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) in collaboration with private event organisers — will begin at 6 a.m. from Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) and conclude at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, one of Lagos’s oldest sporting landmarks.

Osiyemi identified several routes that will be affected during the race, including Tafawa Balewa Square, Water Board, Old NITEL, Outer Marina, Officers Mess, Bonny Camp Bridge, State House, Ahmadu Bello Way, Akin Adesola Street, Falomo Bridge, Falomo Roundabout, Awolowo Road, Onikan Roundabout, and Mobolaji Johnson Arena.

He added that officers from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Lagos State Neighbourhood Corps (LSNC) will be deployed across strategic points to manage vehicular movement and ensure the safety of participants and residents.

The commissioner outlined alternative routes to minimise congestion during the temporary closures. Motorists travelling from Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, a key business corridor in Victoria Island, toward the Third Mainland Bridge are advised to pass through Bonny Camp to the Onikan Underpass, link Marina Exit to Force Road, and connect to Outer Marina before joining the bridge.

Similarly, drivers coming from Apongbon, near Lagos Island’s central business district, and heading to Ikoyi should take Odunlami Street to connect Igbosere Road, proceed through Moloney Street, and continue along Ikoyi Road.

Osiyemi appealed for patience and understanding from motorists, assuring that the affected routes will be reopened in stages as the race progresses.
