The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has suspended academic activities at its Iseyin campus for two weeks following the death of a 200-level student from the Department of Agricultural Economics.

The student, whose identity has not been disclosed, was killed by a hit-and-run driver in Iseyin, Oyo State. The incident triggered protests on Wednesday as students blocked major roads in the town, demanding justice and improved safety measures around the campus.

Confirming the development, the university’s Registrar, Mrs Olayinka Balogun, said the management decided to shut down the Iseyin campus in response to the tragedy and the emotional toll it had taken on the university community.

“The Management of LAUTECH deeply regrets to announce the tragic passing of a 200-level student who was fatally wounded by a hit-and-run driver in Iseyin,” the statement read.

“This heartbreaking incident has cast a shadow over our university community. We extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased. In recognition of the grief among students and staff, the management has approved a two-week suspension of academic activities at the Iseyin campus, effective immediately.”

Balogun directed all students in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Renewable Natural Resources to proceed on the break, adding that classes would resume on Monday, November 24, 2025.

She noted that essential service officers would continue to work during the suspension period and urged students to remain calm and united in honouring the memory of their late colleague.
