The Federal Government of Nigeria and the Edo State Government have formed a joint committee aimed at advancing livestock transformation and strengthening agricultural productivity across the state.

Okay News reports that the Minister of Livestock Development, Mr. Idi Maiha, made this known after a meeting with officials of the Edo State Ministry of Livestock Development in Abuja.

Maiha said the partnership would focus on turning the state’s livestock value chain into a thriving regional hub for red meat, poultry, piggery, goat, and cattle production. He also assured the state of the Federal Government’s full support in rehabilitating the abandoned cattle ranches in Igarra and Ubiaja.

According to the minister, the collaboration is part of the broader national livestock transformation initiative designed to promote food security, enhance animal productivity, and reduce conflicts between herders and farmers.

The minister’s remarks came after a presentation by the Edo State Commissioner for Livestock Development, Prof. Omorodion Ikpomwosa, who outlined the state’s strategies for developing the livestock sector through modern technology, training, and sustainable grazing systems.

Maiha further disclosed that his ministry would assist Edo in building capacity for local farmers and ranch managers while improving infrastructure to boost domestic meat production and exports.

The team is expected to commence work immediately, with plans to visit key livestock clusters across Edo State for assessment and policy alignment.
