The alert was prompted by the circulation of a deceptive link that directs unsuspecting applicants to an unauthorised third-party website.
According to the Fund, the misleading message contains a link, “http://gvly.xyz/Nelfund-Student-Loan,” which it confirmed is not associated with its operations in any way. The agency stressed that individuals who interact with the link risk revealing sensitive personal information to fraudulent actors. In a public advisory released through its verified X handle on Tuesday, the management of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund advised students to avoid clicking on the link or sharing any personal details on platforms not officially endorsed by the institution. The advisory emphasised that the only legitimate channels for loan registration and related information are the ones made available by the Fund through its official website and authorised communication outlets.
The Fund reiterated the importance of digital safety, encouraging students to report suspicious platforms and messages. It noted that campaigns like this form a major part of its ongoing mission to protect applicants from exploitation. “Applicants are encouraged to always verify official announcements via NELFUND’s official website and social media channels,” the Fund stated, reinforcing its commitment to transparency and applicant protection.
This renewed warning comes as part of broader national efforts to ensure that the student loan system remains secure, credible, and free from infiltration by fraudsters who may attempt to exploit the growing interest in government-supported education financing.
