President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria will leave Abuja on Wednesday for a two-country working visit to South Africa and Angola, where he will participate in the G20 Leaders’ Summit and the AU–EU Summit.
The announcement came through a statement from Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.
Tinubu’s first engagement will be the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, a global forum that brings together the world’s major economies alongside the European Union, the African Union, international financial institutions and strategic partners. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, who currently leads the G20, formally invited Tinubu to attend this year’s gathering. Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva had previously extended an invitation to the 2024 edition held in Rio de Janeiro.
The summit, scheduled for 22–23 November at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, follows the theme “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability.” Leaders will meet in three plenary sessions covering inclusive and sustainable growth, trade and finance for development, debt sustainability, climate change, disaster risk reduction, energy transitions, food systems, critical minerals, decent work and artificial intelligence.
Tinubu will also hold bilateral meetings designed to advance Nigeria’s international partnerships in line with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
After the G20 sessions, Tinubu will proceed to Luanda, Angola, for the 7th African Union–European Union Summit taking place from 24–25 November 2025. The summit will convene heads of state, youth representatives, innovators and civil society leaders from both continents. Discussions will centre on climate action, inclusive development, digital transformation, infrastructure, the creative economy, manufacturing and agribusiness. The goal is to produce actionable recommendations that strengthen AU–EU cooperation.
Tinubu’s delegation includes Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar, Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Wale Edun, Solid Minerals Minister Dele Alake, Trade and Investment Minister Jumoke Oduwole, and the Director-General of Nigeria’s National Intelligence Agency, Mohammed Mohammed.
The President will return to Nigeria after completing all scheduled engagements.
