The national leadership of the All Progressives Congress has officially confirmed that Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel, former governor of Ogun State and current representative of Ogun East, remains a full member of the ruling party.

According to a letter dated November 17 and signed by the party’s National Secretary, Dr. Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, the clarification was issued in response to an inquiry from MJS Law Firm, led by Prof. Yemi Oke, Senior Advocate of Nigeria. The law firm had sought documents regarding the purported suspension of Senator Daniel, demanding the materials within seven days to avoid legal action.

Prof. Oke told journalists that the national leadership responded two days before the deadline, stating unequivocally that Senator Daniel remains a bona fide member of the All Progressives Congress. “The national leadership, through its National Working Committee, has not deliberated on or investigated any anti-party conduct allegations against Senator Daniel,” he said.

The party’s state chapter had previously defended Daniel’s indefinite suspension, citing his alleged involvement in anti-party activities during the Remo Federal Constituency by-election in August. APC’s Director of Publicity, Femi Nuberu, insisted that due process was followed and the appeal period had elapsed. “The party’s decision on this matter stands. The window to appeal, as clearly laid out in our constitution, has lapsed. If the Daniel wailers want to wail, that is their right; we cannot take that away from them. They can sustain their appeal on social media,” he stated.

This clarification followed a press briefing at Daniel’s Asoludero private residence in Sagamu, where APC leaders from Ogun East criticized the suspension, alleging it was orchestrated by Governor Dapo Abiodun to prevent Daniel from securing the Ogun East senatorial ticket for the 2027 elections. The leaders also questioned the absence of an official suspension letter.

Responding swiftly to the law firm’s inquiry, the National Secretary reiterated in his letter, partly, “Please take note that the National Working Committee is yet to deliberate on this matter as provided in Articles 21.3(d & e) of the party constitution. Until then, Senator Otunba Olugbenga Daniel remains a bona fide member of the party.”

Prof. Oke commended the party for its transparent and unbiased handling of the issue and assured that Senator Daniel would continue to be law-abiding and contribute to the growth of the party in Ogun State.

Okay News reports that the ruling party’s national office has stressed the importance of following constitutional procedures before issuing any public correspondence regarding the suspension.
