The Kaduna State Police Command has recovered 210 rounds of 7.56mm ammunition abandoned by unidentified occupants of a commercial vehicle along the Zaria–Funtua highway.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, the discovery was made on 25 November at about 4:15pm, when the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Samaru Division and his patrol team responded to a report from members of the public.

Witnesses had alerted police after seeing the occupants of a black Volkswagen Golf suspiciously throw a sack out of the moving vehicle at the Dogo Itace axis of Samaru, Zaria.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers recovered the sack and found it filled with 210 rounds of 7.56mm ammunition. The DPO immediately notified colleagues stationed along the Zaria–Funtua route in a bid to intercept the vehicle, but the suspects could not be traced due to the delayed report.

Police believe the occupants may have panicked after noticing intensified patrol activities and snap checkpoints recently introduced by the Command.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, urged residents to remain alert and promptly report suspicious activity. He announced that a full-scale manhunt for the fleeing suspects is already in progress, stressing the Command’s commitment to proactive policing and the safety of lives and property.

He further warned criminal elements to stay out of Kaduna State or face the full weight of the law.

The Police Command commended the public for reporting the incident and encouraged continued cooperation to strengthen security efforts across the state.
