Spotify has released its Wrapped 2025 data for Nigeria, unveiling a dramatic shift in the country’s listening culture as a new generation of artists steps into the spotlight.

Okay News reports that emerging acts are now competing shoulder-to-shoulder with established stars, reshaping what Nigerian music sounds like and where it is headed.

This year’s Top 10 most-streamed songs made the shift unmistakable. Four breakout talents – Fido, Kunmie, Faceless, and FOLA – not only entered the charts but captured top positions, signalling a powerful recalibration of Nigeria’s sonic identity.

Fido led the new wave with “Joy is Coming” at number two, while Kunmie’s debut single “Arike” claimed the third spot. Faceless secured number four with “Venus,” and Spotify RADAR artist FOLA landed at number six with “Lost.”

Spotify noted that these artists are no longer emerging from the fringes but “actively recalibrating the vibe and driving what’s next in Nigerian music.”

The only track to outperform all newcomers was “With You” (feat. Omah Lay), which became Nigeria’s most-streamed song of 2025 and dominated playlists nationwide.

On the albums chart, Nigerian music’s biggest names continued their stronghold.
Wizkid’s “Morayo” finished as the most-streamed album of the year, followed by Davido’s “5ive,” BNXN’s “Captain,” Burna Boy’s “No Sign of Weakness,” and FOLA’s “Catharsis.”

Asake showed remarkable catalogue staying power, with three albums ranking in the country’s top ten.

Across the board, Nigerian listeners once again proved their deep loyalty to local talent.
Wizkid topped the list of most-streamed artists in Nigeria, followed by Seyi Vibez, Asake, Burna Boy, and Odumodublvck, illustrating the breadth of contemporary Nigerian soundscapes.

In the women’s category, Ayra Starr retained her title as Nigeria’s most-streamed female artist. She was joined by Tems, Smur Lee, Tiwa Savage, and Sunmisola, whose inclusion highlighted Nigeria’s long-standing affection for gospel music.

On the global front, Nigerian musicians continued to drive the country’s cultural export power.
Burna Boy remained Nigeria’s most-exported artist, followed by Tems, Rema, Ayra Starr, and Wizkid.
Rema’s “Calm Down” (with Selena Gomez) extended its global endurance, remaining the most-exported Nigerian song for the third year running.

Beyond music, Nigerians turned heavily to podcasts in 2025. The country saw a 97 percent growth in podcast listening hours and 48 percent growth in podcast creation. The top charts showed a clear national inclination towards faith-based and spiritual content, reflecting a digital turn toward daily guidance, meditation, and community.

Spotify’s data also painted a broader picture of Nigeria’s annual listening behaviour:

• More than 1.3 billion hours spent on Spotify
• 82 percent growth in local music consumption
• 22 percent growth in Afrobeats listening globally
• Daily streaming up by 23 percent
• Nigeria’s average listening age recorded at 25 years old
• Davido’s “With You” (feat. Omah Lay) was the most-shared song on social media

Reflecting on the insights, Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, said, “Nigeria’s 2025 Wrapped paints a picture of a music scene that is absolutely thriving. It’s incredible to see how fast Nigerians embrace fresh voices right alongside the legends.”

With Wrapped 2025 now live, listeners across the country can explore their individual audio journeys, seeing exactly how their choices helped define Nigeria’s evolving soundscape this year.
