Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, has announced a remarkable achievement for its 2025/2026 graduating class. Out of 5,799 students completing their undergraduate programmes, 32 students graduated with first-class honours and are set to receive automatic employment as graduate assistants. Okay News reports.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Olugbenga Ige, disclosed this milestone during a media briefing in preparation for the institution’s 14th convocation. Speaking to journalists, Professor Ige emphasized the university’s commitment to retaining its top talents, stating, “The university has a policy that gives automatic employment to its best graduates. So, the 32 First Class graduates can get the opportunity if they are willing after their National Youth Service Corps programme.”
Providing a detailed breakdown of the graduating students, Professor Ige noted that 1,444 students earned second-class upper honours, 3,177 secured second-class lower, 582 obtained third-class degrees, and 16 were awarded pass degrees. Additionally, 526 postgraduate students will be conferred with degrees, including 32 Ph.D. recipients, 492 Master’s degree holders, two postgraduate diploma recipients, and 22 diploma holders.
As part of the convocation events, Professor Idowu Olayinka, former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, is scheduled to deliver the convocation lecture on Wednesday. Professor Ige, who will be presiding over his final convocation as Vice Chancellor, also highlighted the university’s consistent achievement of 100 percent accreditation from the National Universities Commission.
“Despite severe financial constraints facing the education sector in the country, our university has achieved significant progress in infrastructural development,” he said, adding that the support of staff unions has been instrumental in fostering a harmonious environment for learning and academic excellence.
