New South Wales Police have confirmed that the two gunmen involved in the Bondi Beach shooting were a father and son, bringing new clarity to Sunday’s violent incident that left one of the attackers dead and the other critically injured.

Okay News reports that investigators now say the pair acted alone.

Police identified the injured suspect as 24-year-old Naveed Akram, who remains in hospital under guard.

His 50-year-old father was killed during an exchange of gunfire with officers at the scene.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon confirmed that the older Akram was a long-time firearms licence holder.

“He has six firearms licensed to him. We are satisfied that we have six firearms from the scene yesterday,” he said.

Lanyon added that neither man had a significant history with law enforcement.

“There was little knowledge of either of these men by the authorities.

“He was determined to be entitled to have a firearms licence and had a firearms licence.

“The person that had a firearms licence for a number of years, for which there were no incidents and it was regulated.”

According to investigators, the attack appears to have been carried out solely by the father and son. Police say they are not searching for additional suspects.

Commissioner Lanyon stressed that authorities believe “there were just two people involved in the attack” and confirmed that officers are not looking for anyone else who was “directly involved”.
