The Nigeria Police Force says it will resume nationwide enforcement of the tinted glass permit policy on January 2, 2026, citing rising security threats linked to unauthorised tinted vehicles.

Okay News reports that the decision was announced on Monday in a statement issued by Benjamin Hundeyin, the Force Public Relations Officer.

Hundeyin said the renewed enforcement followed a review of security risks across the country, noting that unauthorised tinted vehicles had increasingly become tools for violent crimes.

He clarified that there is no court order preventing the police from enforcing existing regulations on tinted vehicle glass.

According to him, the earlier suspension was introduced to allow citizens enough time to complete documentation and permit applications without pressure.

The police said recent intelligence shows a troubling pattern of criminals using vehicles fitted with illegal tint to hide their identities, aiding offences such as kidnapping and armed robbery.

“Recent trends, however, reveal a disturbing rise in criminal activities perpetrated with the aid of vehicles fitted with unauthorised tinted glass. Some individuals and organised criminal groups have exploited this gap to conceal their identities and facilitate crimes ranging from armed robbery to kidnapping and other violent crimes,” the statement read.

“In view of this, the Nigeria Police Force has found it both necessary and urgent to resume full enforcement as a proactive measure to safeguard our communities. Consequently, enforcement of Tinted Glass Permit will resume on 2nd January, 2026.”

The Force stressed that restoring enforcement is essential to protect lives and improve nationwide security as the new year begins.
