Nigeria’s internet data consumption reached a record 1.24 million terabytes in November 2025. The volume marks a slight increase from 1.235 million terabytes in October.

Okay News reports that figures from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), the country’s telecom regulator, highlight steady digital growth. Rising adoption of mobile and broadband services fuels the trend.

Analysts attribute the surge to increased streaming, online learning, and digital transactions. Connectivity has become essential for business and leisure activities.

Broadband penetration crossed 50.58 percent in November, up from 45.61 percent in January. Subscriptions totalled approximately 109 million.

The gain falls short of the 70 percent target in the National Broadband Plan 2020–2025, expiring this month. Challenges include infrastructure costs and frequent fibre cuts.

Daily vandalism causes 30 to 43 network disruptions. High right-of-way fees and regulatory hurdles slow expansion.

Mobile network growth, particularly 3G and 4G, drives uptake. Limited 5G rollouts occur in urban centres.

Affordable smartphones and competitive data plans boost access. Investments in the National Communications Backbone improve underserved areas.

Private-sector initiatives support coverage extension. Deployment remains uneven despite progress.

The NCC emphasises sustained infrastructure investment. It aims to maintain gradual sector growth.

This data consumption milestone underscores Nigeria’s expanding digital economy. It reflects deepening integration of online services nationwide.
