The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has sanctioned the Egyptian national team after players and officials failed to fulfil post-match media obligations at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The incident occurred following Egypt’s 2–1 victory over Zimbabwe in their opening group match.

CAF said the decision to avoid journalists in the mixed zone after the game amounted to a clear breach of tournament regulations.

Okay News reports that Egypt has been fined $5,000 and formally warned that stiffer penalties could follow if similar violations occur later in the competition.

Egypt, seven-time winners of the AFCON title, are expected to tighten compliance as the tournament progresses. The North African side will return to action in their second group fixture against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana, with CAF closely monitoring teams’ adherence to both sporting and media rules.
